On Saturday, June 25th there is an opportunity to enjoy a free guided walking tour of the beautiful castles, valleys and landscapes that surround Pessac-sur-Dordogne. The tour is part of the festival of Leo in celebration of the artist Leo Drouyn.

The Entre-Deux-Mers town most drawn by Leo Drouyn!

The Circuit walk (13 km approx.) takes in one of the wealthiest communes of the Entre-Deux-Mers, an area that captivated the famous artist Leo Drouyn.

This full day tour has commentary by Sylvia Faravel Larrieu and Bernard, two of the authors of Volumes 15 and 16 (canton of Pujols) Collection Drouyn Leo, the albums of drawings, with contributions from MM. Gaillardoux, Dubau, Vedrenne, Dudo, Sandaran.

The walking tour is organised in partnership with the municipality of Pessac sur Dordogne, the sports association, cultural and entertainment Pessac (ASCAP / FJEP), the Circle of Professionals of Gensac (CPPG), the Mill at Moustelat,  the Office of Tourism Castillon-Pujols, and the owners of the properties visited.

(*) The Orchestrarmonico of Bouscat, founded and directed by Giorgio Bocci in 1993 is an ensemble of flutes, violins, violas and cellos, with a score of young musicians from the School of Music Bouscat.

Over the summer there are local night markets (marche nocturne) taking place in Gensac, Pessac, Juillac and Coubeyrac .

In 2010 the markets were a great success with many people taking the opportunity to dine alfresco in the beautifully renovated surroundings.

Local restaurants like Les Remparts Hotel & Restaurant will be cooking in the village squares offering the best cuts of steak in the area, fresh seafood and oysters will be served by the local grocery store and  a range of local delicacies are available from producers from the area.

Winemakers from the commune offer tastings and sell wine by the glass or bottle to accompany your meal.

In his wine of the week article, the WineDoctor, says that every wine writer that features Bordeaux “focuses far too much time on a small selection of famous names, the top two hundred (or thereabouts) chateaux of the region. Yes, these are the chateaux that make the necessary waves, and thus define the region, but they are not the be-all and end-all of Bordeaux.”

We couldn’t agree more, it’s self perpetuating and self fulfilling, it blocks wine lovers from finding some exceptionally good wine that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
